Description
EPOSIL is a bifunctional epoxy and trimethoxysilanes used as adhesion promoter for water based, UV and solvent based system. It is used to improve adhesion of organic resins to inorganic substrates or surfaces. EPOSIL is soluble in water after hydrolysis, acetone, alcohols and aliphatic esters.
Benefits of using EPOSIL are:
1. Improve wet and dry adhesion strength on glass, concrete and
metals
2. Improve scrub resistance.
3. Improve binding power of resin to fillers.
4. Improve blistering resistance.
5. Increase tensile strength.
6. Increase compressive & flexural strength.
7. Lower viscosity of filled liquid resins.
Application – EPOSIL can be used in:
1. Emulsion polymerization (styrene acrylics, full acrylics, vinyl acrylics, vinyl veova and VAE), EPOSIL must be added as post- add at < 40 deg C.
2. Architectural paints (interior, exterior and putty)
3. Construction products (waterproofing, sealant, bonding agent and ceramic tile adhesive)
4. Adhesive.
5. UV system
6. Treatment of fiber glass for use in reinforced plastics.
The recommended dosage is 0.05 – 0.3 pphr (per part hundred resin), it varies depends on the desire adhesion strength, scrub resistance, and compressive strength. The epoxy group of EPOSIL will undergo ring-opening reactions with acids, amines, alcohols, thiols and others epoxides. The presence of acid or basic catalyst facilitates this reactivity.
The methoxysilyl group is subject to hydrolysis in water or water/alcohol solutions to produce silanol that is capable of condensing with hydroxyl groups at the surfaces. After condensing with the mineral surface, the remaining silanol groups are capable of hydrogen bonding or condensing with adjacent silanol groups.

Environmental – EPOSIL may cause moderate irritation to skin and if inhale may irritate nose and throat. Please refer to the MSDS for detail.
Packaging – EPOSIL is optionally packaged in 200 liter plastic drum or 20 liter plastic pail.
Handling and Storage – The usual precautions for handling chemicals should be observed. Avoid contact with eye and skin by wearing goggles and gloves. For skin contact washes with water and soap, while eye contact flush with water for 15 minutes. Ingestion: seek urgent medical care. Keep container tightly closed for storaging. EPOSIL when its kept between 10 – 35o C will have shelf life up to 24 months and can be further extended after being re-checked. After opening, EPOSIL should be protected from atmospheric moisture to prevent gelation.
